The objective of this annual conference is to meet the requirements of lawyers specialised in labour and employment law to keep themselves informed about the latest developments in legislation, jurisprudence and best practice in this field.
Key topics to be addressed include:
Information and consultation rights of employees: the European Union has recently agreed on a recast version of the European Works Council Directive. This introduces changes such as new definitions of ‘information’, ‘consultation’ and ‘transnational’. Furthermore, some recent cases before the European Court of Justice (e.g. C-44/08 Fujitsu Siemens and C-12/08 Mono car Styling SA), as well as the current economic crisis, provide the perfect occasion to review the information and consultation rights of employees in their entirety.
Reconciliation of professional and family life: the social partners have agreed on a revised Framework Agreement on parental leave, while the proposals to amend Directive 86/613 and Directive 92/85 on maternity leave and pregnancy protection are still under negotiation.
Posting of workers: especially in view of Commission President Barroso's commitment to propose a new Regulation on posted workers.
Other recent ECJ case-law: new cases on working time, anti-discrimination, etc.
